When the ball comes into contact with the water silver ions will be released from inside the ball. The silver ions are dispersed throughout the laundry. They attach to the bacteria and effectively starve the bacteria.
When the laundry comes into contact with humidity, like perspiration, the silver ions are activated and assist to prevent the formation of unpleasant odours. The growth of bacteria is stopped.

# The BlueMagicBall® was tested by the OMPG (Ostthüringische Materialprüfgesellschaft für Textil und Kunststoffe = East Thuringian Testing Society for Textiles and Plastics) for the release of silver during 80/160 washing cycles according to the DIN EN 26330 and for microbiological characteristics according to JIS L 1902:2002 (see testing report 2.5/008-68/07 from Oct 11, 2007). According to the OMPG the BlueMagicBall® meets besides the requirements of the biocide-product-standard (98/8/EG): BAuA-Nr: N-32056 for product type 9 (protection of textiles), BAuA-Nr: N-32057 for product type 2 (disinfectant for private use) and BAuA-Nr: N-32058 for product type 1 (biocide product for the human hygiene).
